TT Architecture
Canberra residential architecture built on sustainability and craft
TT Architecture has been designing homes in Canberra since 1990, when founder Tony Trobe established the practice with a clear set of values: sustainable design, energy efficiency and architecture that is genuinely responsive to its site and the people who will live in it. More than three decades later, those values are still at the centre of everything the studio does.
With over 100 industry awards to its name, including multiple Home of the Year titles from both the HIA and Master Builders Association, TT Architecture has built a reputation that extends well beyond Canberra. The practice works across the ACT, the NSW South Coast, rural ACT, and beyond, drawing clients seeking something considered and lasting rather than simply on-trend.
Design with genuine depth
The portfolio at TT Architecture spans a wide range of residential styles: mid-century modern, Scandinavian-influenced, prairie style, barn-like forms, skillion roofs and more. What connects them is not a house style but a design approach. Each project is shaped by the site, the brief and the client’s own sensibilities, and Tony draws on a broad architectural literacy to develop designs that are both original and deeply resolved.
Past projects have referenced the work of Richard Neutra and Frank Lloyd Wright while remaining entirely contemporary in their execution. The Ainslie Modern Scandi house, for instance, grew directly from the client’s Scandinavian heritage. The Hodak Young House, which won HIA House of the Year in 2003, came from a close collaboration between architect and client that shaped every detail of the outcome.
A relationship-based process
Tony describes the architect-client relationship as something like a marriage for the duration of a project, and that framing is telling. The first consultation is free of charge and is genuinely about getting to know each other and understanding what the project involves before any commitment is made. From there, the process is collaborative and thorough, with costs discussed openly from the start rather than treated as an afterthought.
TT Architecture handles the full process from initial design through to approvals, builder selection and representation during construction. Interior design and joinery coordination are also available, with clients retaining ownership of their joinery plans so they can obtain the best prices independently.
Design consultation before you buy
One of the more practical services TT Architecture offers is pre-purchase design consultation. For anyone considering buying a block or an existing property with a view to building or renovating, getting an architect’s assessment of the site’s potential before committing can save considerable time and money later.
An initial consultation is available at no charge to anyone interested in exploring a project.

Tony and Deb designed a stunning and very liveable house as part of an innovative dual occupancy in Hughes. The house has a very warm feel with spacious living areas and beautifully integrated decor. I would highly recommend TT Architecture to anyone looking to build a high quality, unique and stunning home.
