The Runners Shop has been part of Canberra’s running community since July 1990, founded by Brian Wenn and widely regarded as one of the best running specialist stores in Australia. For over three decades, the shop has operated from Dundas Court in Phillip, building long-standing relationships with local runners, clubs, and the broader Canberra sports medicine community.

What sets the shop apart is the staff. Everyone working there is a runner or athlete themselves, spanning the full range from elite competitors to social joggers, and they bring that firsthand experience to every fitting. The approach is to find the shoe that suits your foot and how you run, not to push a particular brand or meet a store’s target. Staff will observe your gait and arch structure, examine how your previous shoes have worn, and consider how and where you train before making a recommendation. The shop maintains close ties with Canberra’s physio, podiatry and sports medicine community and keeps up with developments in shoe technology and sports science.

What’s in store

The range covers men’s, women’s and kids’ shoes across road running, trail, racing, training and walking categories. Brands stocked include Asics, Brooks, Hoka, New Balance, On, Saucony, Mizuno, Nike, Altra and Inov-8. Beyond footwear, the shop carries running clothing, 2XU compression garments, socks, hydration gear, bags, hats, nutrition, and running books. An online store offers free shipping on orders over $100.

The Runners Shop also sponsors a broad range of Canberra running events and provides support to local clubs across road running, trail, triathlon, orienteering and Little Athletics.

Open Monday to Thursday 9:00am to 5:30pm, Friday 9:00am to 7:00pm, Saturday 9:00am to 4:00pm, Sunday 10:00am to 3:00pm.
