Canberra-born and bred Helen Athanasiou, Director and Head Clinician of the Skin Society, has spent the better part of three decades seeing exactly what the dry Canberra climate does to our bodies. High altitude, intense UV, and low humidity make Canberra one of the hardest environments for maintaining healthy skin. 

Helen built Skin Society with the technology and expertise to treat persistent skin conditions in-house, from correcting UV damage and redness to advanced body treatments.

She started her career in a small salon in Yarralumla, where she spent 30 years building a reputation that spread well beyond the suburb. Her clientele came to include diplomats, ambassadors, and a who’s who of Canberra’s most prominent personalities. 

When she outgrew her small Yarralumla clinic, she opened Skin Society in Kingston in 2022, equipped with a larger range of advanced treatments she had previously been referring clients elsewhere to access.

Your First Visit to Skin Society

If you’re new, the skin consultation is the right place to start. It typically includes an LED session and uses a clinical device called the Observ, which photographs your skin under different types of light to reveal what is happening beneath the surface. It gives Helen a clear picture of what she is working with before she recommends anything. She will ask about your lifestyle, your budget, and what you hope to change, and then she puts together a plan from there.

The team runs regular education sessions covering skin conditions, concerns, and how different products and treatments can help.
