Podiatry Professionals
Finding the right podiatrist matters more than most people realise
Most people don’t know what a podiatrist actually does until they can’t walk or can’t run. Podiatry spans an enormous range of practice, and finding the right podiatrist for your specific situation is crucial.
Matthew Hotchkis has spent fifteen years helping people find the right fit. He holds the Australian Podiatry Association’s Certified Sports Podiatry accreditation, a credential held by a small number of podiatrists nationally.
Meet Matthew Hotchkis
Matthew grew up in Canberra, left to study podiatry in Sydney, then played hockey in Europe before coming home to spend six years at a sports podiatry clinic. He went back overseas for another hockey season, returned knowing he was ready, and in 2011 started a one-room practice in Braddon. No receptionist at that point – he took the calls himself, booked the appointments himself, and treated patients in between.
Fast forward fifteen years, and Podiatry Professionals has built a solid reputation across Queanbeyan and Canberra for providing top quality podiatry care. The clinic is the official podiatry practice for the ACT Brumbies and works with the Canberra Raiders juniors, Canberra Capitals, ACT Cricket, and ACT Hockey. Matthew completed a professional development tour to Philadelphia, liaising with the 76ers and Flyers, and was later invited to Washington to provide podiatric consultation to the Washington Commanders’ NFL medical staff. He was a prizewinner at the ACT Allied Health Excellence Awards in late 2024 and was named Sports and Exercise Podiatry Australia’s first Member Highlight for 2025.
He also established the Matthew Hotchkis Sports Podiatry Scholarship at Western Sydney University, funding a pathway into the profession for students who need it.
The Podiatry Professionals team
The team operates around five values that are literally on the walls of the treatment rooms: team-oriented, patient-focused, authentic, progressive, and strong communicators. The goal isn’t to treat the symptom and send you on your way, but to improve your quality of life at every single touchpoint, from the first phone call right through to the moment you walk out the door. To support that, the clinic offers some of the more advanced diagnostic tools available in Canberra, including video gait analysis, 3D pressure mapping, Zebris treadmill assessment, and shockwave therapy, so practitioners have what they need to understand what’s actually going on before they decide what to do about it.
What it’s like to be a patient
Podiatry Professionals is a practice that works well for patients of all ages. The team has an ability to put younger patients at ease, which matters enormously for parents bringing children in for care. One parent noted how thoughtfully the team engaged with her ten-year-old son, making him feel involved in his own treatment rather than talked over.
“I’ve been a client at this Podiatry Practice for several year. Their professionalism begins at the front door. Welcoming Reception Staff and Bianca is highly skilled kind and compassionate. Highly recommend her and especially as a patient/Client with tricky feet”
