PB Physiology & Rehab
There are plenty of gyms and rehab clinics in Canberra. What there are fewer of are places where the people working with you genuinely care about where you started, where you are now, and where you want to go. PB Physiology and Rehab, led by Michael, Harry and Jasper, is one of those places.
What Most People Get Wrong About Exercise Physiology
If you’ve hurt your knee, are recovering from surgery, or want to return to running or sports after an injury, an exercise physiologist can build a plan that actually gets you there. The distinction between an exercise physiologist and a physiotherapist is worth understanding. Where physios tend to focus on diagnosis and hands-on treatment, exercise physiologists bring deeper expertise in how exercise itself works as a rehabilitation and health tool.
The gap filled by an exercise physiologist is the one between identifying a problem and getting someone back to meaningful levels of activity, with a customised exercise programme built around the individual, not a standard template.
The practice works across post-surgical rehabilitation, chronic condition management, NDIS and DVA-funded services, Medicare-funded sessions, workplace injury recovery, aged care, and online coaching via TrueCoach. The client list runs from 80-year-olds working on their mobility to competitive athletes recovering from serious injuries.
The People Behind It
The initial founders Harry and Michael both hold a Bachelor of Exercise Physiology and Rehabilitation from the University of Canberra. Harry brings over seven years of clinical experience with a focus on musculoskeletal rehabilitation, particularly knee, hip and lower back conditions, along with extensive work with NDIS and DVA clients. Michael’s approach centres on client education: explaining the why behind every programme, because understanding what you’re doing and why tends to be what makes it stick.
Jasper grew up in Canberra, trained at the University of Canberra, and has known Harry and Michael for years, through school, through football, through university. When both co-founders relocated in 2024, Jasper was the person they trusted to keep things going in Canberra. Within the team, he’s known as “Plyo Kidd,” a nod to his focus on plyometrics and lower limb rehabilitation, with a particular interest in helping AFL players stay injury-free.
What It’s Like to Train with PB
One thing that sets PB apart from many exercise physiology practices in Canberra is where sessions actually happen. Rather than a private clinic, PB operates out of commercial gym spaces through partnering with Club Lime across seven locations throughout Canberra, which means the environment feels less like a medical appointment and more like a regular gym session. For a lot of people, that distinction makes it easier to feel comfortable and stay engaged.
Programming shifts based on where someone is in their rehab, how long they’ve been away, and what they’re working towards that week. The team explains the why behind each exercise, how to perform it correctly, and how to rest between sets. A client with chronic illness and limited mobility comes in weekly, knowing their EP will push their limits without compromising technique. A family uses PB to support two members simultaneously, and both feel the programme was built specifically for them. Five-year clients are still coming back.
“Knowledgeable and friendly, the EPs know their stuff and make training varied, interesting and practical/focussed.”
