Movehappy Healthcare Centre

Physiotherapy and Multidisciplinary Healthcare in Canberra That Actually Feels Like Home

There are clinics you walk into that feel transactional, and then there are places that feel like they were built around the people inside them. Movehappy Healthcare Centre in Erindale is firmly in the second category. From the moment you step through the door, something is different. The team knows your name. There is actual warmth in the room. And you quickly realise you are not just another appointment slot on a crowded calendar. Coby, the practice manager, puts it simply: they want the clinic to feel like a home, with a family sort of feeling. Spend five minutes there, and you understand exactly what she means.

What Ryan Cunningham and his wife, Sarah, have built over the past three years at Movehappy is not just a healthcare business. It is a community. And that is not a throwaway line. The foundation they inherited when they took over was already something special, built from the ground up by physiotherapist Dave Berg back in 2002 and expanded through a merger with Melissa Coulter’s Movehappy Osteopathy in 2007. Ryan and Sarah stepped into a clinic with deep roots, real history, and a loyal patient base, and they have continued to grow it with the same spirit it was founded on.

Meet Ryan Cunningham, Senior Physiotherapist and Co-Owner

Ryan is not the kind of physio who coasted through his training and set up shop. He completed his Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of Canberra, and while he was still studying, he was already working at The Canberra Hospital as a physio assistant, spending time in neurological rehabilitation, medical wards, and outpatient rehab. His final year saw him working alongside sports physios in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, providing sports trainer services to multiple teams. By the time he graduated, he already had more hands-on clinical experience than many practitioners who have been in private practice for years.

Since then, Ryan has never stopped learning. He has completed training in the Mulligan Concept, Lyn Watson shoulder courses, Barb Hungerford’s work on pelvis, SIJ, rib and spinal dysfunction, and GEMt trigger point dry needling. He is currently working his way through a Masters in Strength and Conditioning alongside a Masters of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy. When Coby describes the clinic as one that is forever uptraining and keeping up with the latest, that culture starts with Ryan. His own ongoing education sets the standard for the whole team.

A Full Team of Physiotherapists and Osteopaths Under One Roof

With around eight physiotherapists and two osteopaths currently on the team, Movehappy is small enough to feel personal and experienced enough to handle a genuinely wide range of conditions. Ryan himself treats everything from post-surgical rehabilitation and acute injuries through to cervicogenic headaches, TMJ disorders, and chronic pain. He has worked with elite athletes in the Australian Ice Hockey League and the National Premier League football competition, and he continues to see athletes from novice to professional levels on a regular basis. But you do not have to be an athlete to feel like you are in the right place.

One thing worth knowing is that not every physiotherapist is the right fit for every patient, and the team at Movehappy understands this completely. Their approach is to help you find your person. As Coby explains, you might see one physio and not quite have that connection, then see another and immediately think, that’s them. The team encourages this because they know that feeling genuinely comfortable with the person treating you is not just a nice-to-have. It is a genuine part of how well treatment works.

What Real Patients Are Saying About Movehappy Physiotherapy

The reviews speak loudly here. Patients describe the staff as consistently friendly and the experience as professional without feeling clinical or cold. One patient noted that their physiotherapist not only guided them through their full recovery but also took the time to put measures in place to prevent the same injury from happening again. That kind of proactive, injury-prevention mindset is woven into the whole clinic’s philosophy. Movehappy’s stated mission is not simply to treat pain and suffering but to emphasise health promotion, maintenance, and injury prevention. That philosophy shows up in real outcomes for real patients.

Other reviewers highlight the ease of booking appointments online, the consistency of quality across multiple therapists, and the overall atmosphere that makes the clinic genuinely stand out. When several different patients, who have each seen a different practitioner, all say the experience was outstanding, that tells you something meaningful about the culture of the whole practice and not just one individual.

A Family-Owned Clinic with Genuine Team Culture

Something that comes through clearly when you spend time around the Movehappy team is how genuinely they enjoy working together. Many of the physiotherapists have known each other for years, some going back to university. There is even a brother and sister on the team. When a group of people have that kind of history and personal connection, it changes the atmosphere of a workplace, and patients feel it. The team is close, a little silly in the best way, and clearly proud of what they have built together.

Ryan and Sarah run the clinic as a husband and wife team, and that family-owned and operated quality carries through in how the place feels day to day. This is not a corporate chain where decisions are made in a boardroom far away. The people who own it are the people you will see when you walk in. That matters more than it might sound.
