Alexandra Orme Photography
Looking for a professional photographer in Canberra that will make your photoshoot easy and bring out your best ?
Alexandra Orme Photography covers headshots, personal branding shoots, events and weddings, with a client list that includes ANU, Deloitte, Aurecon, Anduril Australia, the Pharmacy Council of Australia, the Law Council of Australia, the Churchill Trust and the Alastair Swayn Foundation, among others.
Over more than a decade, principal photographer Alexandra (Alex) Orme has worked with thousands of subjects across the capital, from individual professionals to corporate teams of two hundred, small business owners building a visual identity, and event clients from gala dinners to government conferences.
Alex studied Photography and Media Arts at ANU, working other roles part-time while building her client base, before going full-time in 2021. Art school gave her the technical foundation for her craft – but, she comments, there’s far more to running a great photography studio than being able to operate a camera.
“You can be the best photographer in the world, but if you don’t have good client interactions or workflows in place, then you’re not going to be very successful,” she explains.
Headshots and personal branding for Canberra professionals
The work she describes as most satisfying happens early in a session. “The most common thing I hear is that I hate having my photo taken, and to change that view in thirty minutes or less, that is kind of what I like about it,” she says.
On large corporate headshot days, the window is tighter still. “Usually I get two to five minutes with a client, and then you show them the back of the camera, and they go, ‘Oh. Actually, wow, I look pretty good.’”
Those who have worked with her describe a session that puts them at ease, moves quickly and feels comfortable. She directs groups without making the direction feel heavy, whether it is a corporate team or family and friends at an event, and has a noted ability to capture candid moments alongside the posed ones.
“It’s less about vanity and more about being seen, and being able to feel like you’ve been represented properly.”

Branding clients report that the final images capture something about their business they had struggled to represent on their own. “I get a lot of clients who get photographed quite regularly, and then they say this is the first time I’ve actually felt comfortable and like me in those photos,” she recalls.
A recent client, a woman in her seventies, came to a session having convinced herself she was not worth photographing, that nobody would want to know her or what she does. “She was dreading the experience, but it was actually fine,” Alex reflects. “And then she has photos that her family and friends looks at and says, ‘Yep, that’s you.”
About Alex Orme
Away from the camera, Alex loves to push the limits. She has a passion for long-distance running, which led to 24-hour mountain biking. “That rolled into multi-day adventure racing,” she recalls. “I like pushing the limits of my body and being able to function under that kind of pressure.”
Two small children have changed the focus a little, but not the instinct. “I love being outdoors, and I have great friends who are also ‘my kind of crazy,’” she says. “We might wake up at 4am and go for a hike and then a packraft and come back to Canberra.”

First Headshot Mini Day — Phillip, 12 May
On Tuesday 12 May, Alex is hosting her first headshot mini day at Mood Studio in Phillip. Sessions run 20 minutes and include two edited images for $450, with additional images available at $100 each. There’s space within the session for an outfit change and a range of looks.
For anyone who’s had “update the headshot” sitting on the to-do list for longer than they’d like to admit, it’s a lower-commitment way in than a full session, in a controlled studio environment rather than the outdoor locations she typically works from. Spots are still available so contact Alex for more information and to secure your place.

Alex did a wonderful job covering the pre-ceremony moments of my graduation this year. She was brilliant at gently directing my friends and family for posed photos as well as at capturing beautiful candid shots. Everyone raved about her skills and conduct both during the shoot and after the photos had been published. I keep finding myself coming back to my photo gallery, again and again. I promise: you would be hard pressed to find a more personable professional photographer in Canberra!
